We’ve had lots of requests to share some pics of our shiny new bridal show booth that we unveiled last weekend. So here you go, enjoy.

It’s been a long time coming but we’re so excited to share the all new Hawes Photography with you. We’ve been working towards a new and simpler look for a couple years now and there was no better way to start the new year than a new us. Pretty much everything is different except for what we do so look around and enjoy. Be sure to work over to the new hawesphotography.com too! (if you’ve been to our site recently you may need to clear your cache, servers want to hold back the newness) Keep an eye out b/c we have more awesomeness to share later today.
So I started a cooking blog…
Sometimes it seems crazy to add another venture to my already jam packed life. But cooking is something I do every day. And I love it!
Don’t get me wrong. It hasn’t always been this way. When Aaron and I first moved in together, cooking was a necessity. Honestly, I kind of hated it. It was hard. It was time consuming. And the results were not always as good as I had hoped.
Fast forward to today. We have a successful business. We’re crazy busy. And I’m still cooking.
Somewhere along the way, things started getting easier. I learned how to measure without reaching for a measuring spoon every time. I got better knives and got better at using them. I made a conscious effort to cook healthier meals. And one day, I realized, I love cooking!
We’re not the only couple out there trying to eat healthy meals that actually taste good. And I figure, if I can get dinner on the table most days (ya know, between the 9-to-5 job and working on stuff for Hawes Photography), you can too. So if you like to cook, want to get better at making dinner, need some new recipes, or are just curious to learn a bit more about our lives via food: hop over and check it out: www.modernmealsfortwo.com. I hope you bookmark it, add it your Google feed, subscribe… whatever gets you back on a regular basis… so you can chat with me about food.
I know we just posted features last week but I didn’t want Drew & Ashley’s engagement session that went up today on Weddings Unveiled to get left out.
We’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of our work featured in some amazing blogs and magazines lately. Just wanted to share.
Ryan & Amber’s Wedding featured on Style Me Pretty
Phill & Alison’s Wedding on Style Me Pretty
Jason & Andrea’s destination wedding in The Knot’s magazine.

Patrick & Jenny in St Louis Bride & Groom magazine.

Elliott & Elise in St Louis Bride & Groom magazine.

We’re pleased to announce that there’s a new addition to the Hawes family!
We bought an oversize printer! That’s probably not the bundle of joy you were expecting, but hear us out and you may change your tune. Ever since Aaron left the printing industry, we’ve yearned for an oversize printer so we could print our own canvases and cut out some of the cost for our clients (see where this is going?) Faced with a new studio and a fresh slate of walls, we knew we could either hand over two three month’s pay to our canvas company to fill our walls or seize the opportunity to expand our family of gadgets..
After several months of waiting, we were beyond excited to welcome this baby into our lives (on Aaron’s birthday no less)

Now that the printing division of Hawes Photography is up and running, we’re pleased to pass on some savings to you. We’re dropping our standard canvas prices AND throwing a mad “welcome to the world” special in honor of our newest addition.
New price Limited time special
16 x 20 $350 $250 $150
20 x 30 $600 $400 $250
30 x 40 $1000 $700 $500
40 x 60 $1500 $900 $700
We can literally make canvas prints any size so just ask for those custom sizes. Special pricing will still count toward custom sizes.
The fine print (because there’s always some): Our joy doesn’t have an expiration date, but this special does. Orders must be placed by March 15, 2011, to receive the limited time special pricing.
Welcome to our world
Now that we’ve had our official debut of the studio space, we wanted to share it with the world wide web. There are lots of fun features that can really only be enjoyed in person, so make plans to stop by and see us next time you’re in St. Louis!
Be sure to check out our Etsy store where the vintage cameras from our studio are available.
Here’s a little stop motion video from our Open House.

We’re opening our first storefront, this is not just a home-based business, pedestrian traffic welcome studio! I’m resisting the urge to insert multiple exclamation points, because we couldn’t be more excited to finally be here. And be here I mean 1) in a bonafide studio 2) in a new city and 3) on Cherokee Street.
Each of these points deserves special attention.
1. Getting Aaron out of our basement (unaffectionately known as “the cave”) has been high on our business goals for a few years. We felt our home studio was great for weddings but was holding us back in a few other areas of the biz. Let’s be honest, we couldn’t exactly hold a business meeting with a prospective client interested in our commercial work in our Blue Springs basement…with the dog corralled upstairs… you get the picture.
2. We moved cities. While we L O V E Kansas City and it will always hold a special place in our hearts, we’re thrilled to be scouting new places to shoot and bringing our creative style to StL. We’re already making mental notes of places we’re dying to shoot!
3. We have had a crush on Cherokee Street since we visited a few years ago to check out the antique stores for which the strip is famous. What we found was a gorgeous hunk of city with affordable retail spaces that was just begging for artists. And we’re not the only ones who noticed. Much like Crossroads was the heart of KC’s art renaissance, we see Cherokee and the awesome people on this street breaking new ground in the art world and, in doing so, creating a fantastic community of likeminded folks.
So consider this your invitation (if you haven’t received the e-vite the FB event notification or talked to us in the past week… I’ve invited anyone who seems remotely interested). We’re throwing open the doors, popping a few dozen bottles of wine and saying “Hi! Nice to meet you!” to anyone who wants to stop by. The party starts at 5 pm Friday at 2307 Cherokee Street.
And for all you who can’t make it, stop back here on Monday. We hope to be past our hangover by then and posting images of our studio!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Eeek! I couldn’t help myself.)
We’re starting the process of moving into our new studio space in St Louis this weekend. Please be patient with us as it will take a couple weeks to be back working at 100%.
Just b/c we’ll be in Saint Louis now doesn’t mean we don’t still love everyone in KC. We’re still looking forward to working with great couples in KC, STL and across the country.
If you need anything right away you can reach Aaron at 816-260-4718.
