This weekend we weren’t shooting a wedding but it sure doesn’t mean we weren’t working. We spent the day out at the Overland Park Convention Center for KCWedding’s bridal show. We really love participating in these, there is just no other way to meet so many great new couples and fellow vendors all at once.

A big thanks to everyone that stopped by our booth and we’re really looking forward to talking and working with you. Be sure to schedule your consultation ASAP to see more of the HPD goodness!

I’m not even sure what’s going on here but it’s funny!

James and Karla’s wedding was the epitome of fun – from the green polos for the groom and groomsmen to the feather boas in the sanctuary! They even included their dog, Kenzie, in the action (complete with pink dress). Everyone was a great sport as we traversed Parkville on a HOT summer afternoon. We also stopped by a field near Karla’s parents’ home, which turned out our favorite images of the day.

The teaser:

James and Karla are extrememly in love and that really came through in the pictures. They’re not camera shy either – so they were instantly comfortable.

Rockin’ in Top Model style!

Catching a breeze with Kenzie

The ceremony was full of emotion and tearful moments. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as they read their personal vows. James was Karla’s only boyfriend – and clearly her true love.

More tears during the father-daughter dance.

James and Karla — Congratulations! We couldn’t be happier that you included us in your huge circle of friends at your wedding. Your enthusiasm and emotion made our job easy. We’d shoot you and Kenzie any day!

John & Sheila were really just a great experience and story for us. I got a call from Samantha’s mother Amy in early May saying that her boss needed to get married ASAP and they wanted to come by and talk. It didn’t take long to figure out that we would love working with Sheila. Basically she’s been living in the US for school and work and just happened to fall in love with John at the same time. When they found out her green card wasn’t going to be renewed they just had to push the wedding a little sooner, as in less then a month!

In the end John just wanted Sheila to be happy so she and Amy set off to plan the best last-minute wedding they could. I have to say they did a pretty good job. Everything was wonderful, and Sheila simply glowed from the moment we saw her.

The wedding and reception were at the beautiful Simpson House, just perfect for them. This has to be one of my favorites of the year so far. Wait… didn’t I say that about their teaser?

Jarrod & Kerrie are just those kind of people that you are instantly comfortable around, at least with me. We had so much fun on this shoot I could barely talk them into stopping!

Probably the best part is that Jarrod is a huge transportation fan. Planes, trains, cars, you name it he loves it. Luckily for us one of Kerrie’s clients through her work is Union Pacific so she managed to get us unprecedented access to their repair yard. That’s right, we got to touch an Engine without being ran off by security and threatened with fines. Truly a unique experience with me!

This week was a little slower for us which was really appreciated. Just one wedding, Brian & Emily on Saturday. They had everything at the Loose Mansion, you’ll be seeing plenty of pictures from Loose the next few months because this was the first of 3 weddings we’re shooting there this season. There is also going to be some hilarious pictures of Heather that happened during dinner so watch out!

We dusted off our point-and-shoot camera for an evening with Jason and Kelly. The next day we realized there were a ton of random pictures chronicling the past 10 month. So here is a cliff notes version of the time in between weddings.

If you’ve been to our house you know we have a dog. She either barked at you from a room down the hall (if you were here for a consultation) or she barked at you in person and probably jumped on you. She’s never made an appearance on the blog and that needs to change! She’s really my baby but Aaron let’s her live here. Part cuteness, part crazy — she can be quite a handful. Oh and she’s completely spoiled — lots of beds and toys. Occasionally she manages to tear one of her toys apart. This was an artful example we came upon one day. We named it “ode to a dead giraffe”  :)

Sometimes we find toys that are more entertaining for us than her. After a trip to Dave and Buster’s with my parents, we used our tickets to buy some fun plush toys. The monkey with velcro feet doubled as a nice accessory…  If you can’t tell from the expression, she’s not happy with us.

Eventually she came to like her new “clothes”. Here she is getting some love from my mom.

Happy Halloween! — Yeah I know it’s late. I spent my Halloween with my Little Sister from Big Brothers Big Sisters. The organization always throws a great Halloween bash complete with pumpkin decorating contest. After an unfortunate incident last year when our attempt at a Bratz pumpkin looked more like a hooker or a blow up doll — I decided to play it safe with a mummy pumpkin. I heart crafts!

Yeah I didn’t dress up. I just couldn’t think of anything to go with Jamela’s doctor outfit. I was so NOT going to wear a paper hospital gown. Here we’re posing with some friends — Kelly and her little Elisha. Elisha is trying to look cool — I promise she’s not pissed. And Kelly hasn’t actually been drinking …

On to Thanksgiving — after much stress over my first turkey I managed to pull off a great meal for the whole fam. Here’s a random shot of Aaron’s Grandma E.

So we work a lot — you might already know that. Occasionally we take a vacation and last year we treated ourselves to an 11-day Caribbean cruise. We had a great time and posted some better pictures you can see here. The point and shoot turned up one gem – a champagne fountain from one of the formal nights. The idea is that women line up and take turns pouring champagne down the glasses.

And now a belated birthday party post. Several friends joined us at the ONLY restaurant we like in Blue Springs — a delicious Chinese restaurant that cooks your food to order. We had a great time and apparently took some pictures!

Here is my 9-to-5 boss, Joe and his wife Netta. He claims to be unphotogenic but we haven’t found that to be true.

No occasion would be complete with out The Pasons! We had some more incriminating pics of Ashley, but we’re keeping those for black mail.

Tim is Aaron’s longtime best friend. Amy is Tim’s (then pregnant) wife whom Aaron had a good time snapping random pictures of. Seriously we had a flip book. This was Aaron’s choice — so Amy don’t blame me! I particularly love Tim’s expression — he thinks it’s hilarious when Aaron messes with Amy.

Rust and Claire — one of the cutest, most endearing couples you will meet. We don’t get to see them much so were really happy that they could join us.

OK now we’re back up to July. That was a long trip! Kelly and Jason (you may remember their awesome e-session and wedding pics) are clients turned friends and we couldn’t be happier! We met in Westport for some July 3rd hanging out. After dinner at McCoys we headed to Ernie Biggs Piano Bar.

A camera war between Jason and Aaron.

We don’t actually know this girl, but it’s a good picture of the stage.
